We will have a Journal Club at 7pm, Tuesday, Oct 22 in the 19th-floor Observatory Hall. This Journal Club will be given by Wenyong Kang (康文泳). The title of the talk will be "X-ray Telescope, Spectrum, and Analysing Software".
X-ray emission is one of the most powerful event in the universe, such as AGN, supernova and pulsar. Last week, Prof. Xue gave an impressive talk about the discovery of the magnetar using X-Ray Telescope Chandra. I believe lots of you are attracted by the X-ray observation. Thus, in this Journal Club, Wenyong Kang will give a talk about the X-ray observation. He will introduce some famous X-ray telescopes and give an introduction to X-ray spectra of AGN, supernova, pulsar, etc. Finally, he will show some examples of X-ray spectrum reduction using the X-ray Spectral Fitting Package, Xspec.
You are welcome to join the discussion. We will provide snacks and drinks.
