This week's Lunch Talk will be given by  Canmin Deng (邓灿敏), at 11:30AM Dec. 12th (Thursday) in the 19th-floor Observatory Hall (天文台报告厅).  He will present his work on the “Fast Radio Bursts and Applications”. Below is the abstract.

Abstract: Fast radio bursts (FRBs) are newly discovered high brightness and short duration cosmic radio sources. They have a very high burst rate, about 104 per day in all-sky. Many models have been proposed to explain FRBs, but none has been universally accepted. In this talk, the latest observation and theoretical research progress of FRBs will be presented. In addition, the applications of FRBs will also be introduced.
