本讲座回顾了空间望远镜相关的知识和技术发展的历史,重点介绍了两台极具影响力的空间光学望远镜。它们就是有名的哈勃望远镜和韦伯望远镜。在介绍空间望远镜新技术的同时,也介绍了韦伯望远镜所面临的困难和不断推迟发射的原因。在报告的后面部分,是后韦伯时代的空间望远镜的计划和利用地球大气层来实现恒星成像的地球望远镜大胆想象。
 Prof. Jingquan Cheng is a retired scientist of National Radio Astronomy Observatory of US. He graduated from Nanjing University of Science and Technology. He was postgraduate student of Chinese Academy of Sciences and a visiting fellow of Royal Society of UK. He received his PhD degree from University of Wales, UK. After his PhD study, he worked at Nanjing Institute of Astronomical Optics and Technology as project manager for 13.7 m millimeter telescope in Delinha. In 1986, he was a member of Astronomy Committee of Chinese academy of Sciences. He was invited by Professor Jiang Shiyang to write a telescope chapter for his book on Astrophysics methods. This book was not published. Prof. Cheng's primary research interests are telescope design and construction, He has worked on many telescopes both in optics and in radio wavelength. He is the only author of a popular textbook of "The Principles of Astronomical Telescope Design" both in Chinese and English. He was the key member of ALMA antenna project. He has been a visiting professor of Purple Mountain Observatory.
