Multi-messenger modeling of neutrino-coincident tidal disruption events

Chengchao Yuan (袁成超) is a postdoctoral fellow at Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron DESY in Germany (Zeuthen campus, near Berlin). Chengchao obtained his PhD in Physics from Pennsylvania State University in August 2022. Before that, he earned his B.Sc. degree in Astronomy from Nanjing University in 2016. Dr. Yuan's research focuses on theoretical and numerical multi-messenger astrophysics, including the origins and implications of high-energy photons, cosmic rays, and neutrinos from TDEs, GRBs, and compact binary mergers.

Recent observations have revealed that Tidal Disruption Events (TDEs), caused by the gravitational disruption of a massive star close to a supermassive black hole (SMBH), can produce intense flares of radiation lasting from months to years. Notably, three TDE candidates (AT2019dsg, AT2019fdr, and AT2019aalc) are likely associated with IceCube astrophysical neutrinos. In this talk, I will first review the observational properties and models of neutrino-coincident TDEs. I will present our recent results on the neutrino and electromagnetic cascade emissions by numerically solving the coupled time-dependent transport equations and discuss the implications for the radiation zones of AT2019dsg and AT2019fdr, using the upper limits of gamma-ray flux from Fermi-LAT. I will also present our recent work on another neutrino-coincident TDE candidate with a strong dust echo.
