Photometric objects Around Cosmic webs: integrating cosmological spectroscopic and photometric surveys

Kun Xu is a final-year Ph.D. candidate at Shanghai Jiao Tong University under the supervision of Prof. Yipeng Jing. He earned his B.S. from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2019 and will receive his Ph.D. in June. Starting in September, Kun will join the University of Pennsylvania as a postdoctoral fellow. He has published 11 first-author papers, including one in Nature Astronomy, and numerous co-authored papers. His work focuses on integrating cosmological spectroscopic and photometric surveys to deliver novel measurements and results across various fields in galaxy formation and cosmology, such as galaxy stellar mass function, galaxy-halo connection, galaxy quenching, gravitational lensing, intrinsic alignment, and baryon acoustic oscillations.

Over the past two decades, both cosmological spectroscopic and photometric surveys have significantly contributed to shaping our understanding of galaxy formation and cosmology. Nevertheless, these two types of surveys possess unique advantages and disadvantages, often aligned with distinct scientific objectives. However, combining these two types of surveys can yield a wealth of information. In a series of studies, I develop new methods to integrate these two kinds of surveys, providing novel measurements and results across various fields to advance our understanding of galaxy formation and cosmology.
