White dwarf (WD) binaries are important for studies of cataclysmic variables, the supersoft X-ray sources and Type Ia supernovae. These WD binaries with short orbital periods are important gravitational wave sources. However, the formation and evolution of WD binaries are not well understood. In this talk, I will discuss the formation of WD binaries with extremely low-mass WDs and AM CVn systems. In addition, I will discuss the soft X-ray emission of accreting WD binaries, their contribution to He II 4686 Å in elliptical galaxies and the properties of nova populations.
