Scheduled for launch in 2030, the enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarization (eXTP) telescope is a Chinese space-based mission aimed at studying extreme conditions and phenomena in astrophysics. The current configuration for eXTP features three main payloads: Spectroscopy Focusing Arrays, Polarimetry Focusing Arrays, and a Wide-field Camera. I will talk about the recent efforts of the X-ray astronomy community leading to the updated science white papers of eXTP, and introduce its science prospects in the research frontiers of probing the strong gravity region of black holes, strong magnetism and dense matter in neutron stars, time-domain and multi-messenger astronomy, along with the scientific capabilities of eXTP in multiple other research domains.
